2009 Abalone Fishery Changes

Total allowable catch (TAC) and new management arrangements.

The TAC for the 2009 fishing year is 2,604 tonnes.

The breakdown between parts of the fishery is as follows:
  • Eastern 243 kg/Unit TAC of 850.5 tonnes

  • Western 264 kg/Unit TAC of 924 tonnes

  • Central Western 87 kg/Unit TAC of 304.5 tonnes

  • Northern 95 kg/Unit TAC of 332.5 tonnes

  • Bass Strait 20 kg/Unit TAC of 70 tonnes

  • Greenlip 35 kg/Unit TAC of 122.5 tonnes

  • Total 744 kg/Unit TAC of 2,604 tonnes

The document also outlines sustainable catch targets, alterations to size limits, biosecurity arrangements for fishing around King Island and in Northern Bass Strait, unloading from motherboats and additional information and contacts.
