Marine Farming/Aquaculture

Marine farming has expanded rapidly in Tasmania since the 1990s and is now one of the State's major industries. Other secondary industries have also grown up around marine farming, creating additional economic and employment benefits for the State.

	About Marine Farming The marine farming industry is regulated by the DPIPWE.

	Marine Farming Development Plans DPIPWE prepares marine farming development plans for key marine farming areas around the State.

	Marine Farming Application Forms Applications for marine farming plans, licences and leases.

	Marine Farming: Benthic Mornitoring 1997 - 2002 Details the environmental status of marine farming leases 1997-2002 based on an ongoing benthic monitoring program conducted across MFDP Areas.

The Department does not manage freshwater fishing or freshwater aquaculture in Tasmania. Inland Fisheries information can be found at www.ifs.tas.gov.au

A Seal/Fishery Interaction Management Strategy has been developed by the Marine and Marine Industries Council.
