Animal Industries

Animal industries account for about half of the gross value of all agricultural commodities in Tasmania. The three largest sectors are wool and sheepmeat, beef and dairy.

Dairy research, development and extension activities now are delivered through the Dairy Centre of the Tasmanian Institute of Agricultural Research (TIAR), a joint venture between the Tasmanian Government and the University of Tasmania. Meat and Livestock
Tasmania's meat and livestock industry is comprised mainly of beef, sheepmeat and poultry. Information on the pig industry is also included here.
Sheep
This is a traditional and still important industry in Tasmania. It is based mainly on wool, but with a strong meat component also.
Other Animal Industries
Rabbits, honey bees, deer and eggs plus emerging animal industries - alpacas, deer, emus, goats, ostriches, wallaby, possums, muttonbirds.
Game Management
Tasmania has a number of game species that are hunted, trapped and otherwise utilised for commercial and recreational purposes.
Dairy Industry
The dairy industry is of major significance to both the agricultural and manufacturing sectors of the state, and is an important export industry.
