Fishing Licences and Seasons

All commercial fishing must be conducted under a licence and a licence is required for recreational fishing for abalone, rock lobster dive, rock lobster pot, rock lobster rings, graball net, mullet net, beach seine net and scallop dive.

Many fisheries are managed with seasons and are usually closed at times corresponding with spawning or breeding for that species. As spawning times can change from year to year, so to may the closed season. If you are fishing for a species subject to periodic closures, check public notices in your newspaper or return to this page.
