Commercial Fishing

The Department manages commercial fishing to ensure that the fishery remains sustainable for the future. All Tasmanian wild fisheries are managed under the Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995 and the subordinate legislation that supports it. Under this Act, all commercial fishing must be under licence.

Formal management arrangements were introduced in March 2007 for the commercial shellfish fishery, which includes clams, cockles, mussels and oysters.
