Reserves and Research Areas
Shark Refuge Areas
Recreational fishing gear can be used in most Tasmanian waters, but there are a variety of restrictions depending on the area fished. Areas where restrictions apply tend to be in the more sheltered waters and may limit what gear can be used or prohibit the taking of certain species. There are also rules that apply to certain areas such as marine farms and research areas. It is important that you familiarise yourself with these restrictions before you go fishing in a particular area.
