Sheep Health Statement

The Sheep Health Statement (previously known as the OJD Animal Health Statement) can be used to reduce the risk of buying in OJD or for declaring your status to potential buyers.

The Sheep Health Statement is your key to the national Assurance Based Credit (ABC) Scheme, which commenced on 1 July 2004. The ABC Scheme is a nationally agreed method of assessing the risk that sheep have ovine Johne's disease (OJD). It is intended to help sheep producers reduce the risk of their flocks becoming infected, as well as providing a pathway for owners of infected flocks to improve their trading position via on-farm management of OJD.

The ABC score for a consignment of sheep, up to a maximum of 10 ABC 'credits', can be calculated using the Sheep Health Statement. The higher the ABC score, the lower the risk of OJD.
