Personal Information Protection Act 2004The Personal Information Protection Act 2004 (PIP Act) applies to all personal information collected, used or stored by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) and its statutory bodies, and is designed to provide principles of security and integrity for the information.
Personal information is information, recorded in any format, where an individual’s identity is apparent or is reasonably ascertainable. This applies if the individual is living, or has been deceased for less than 25 years. Generally, personal information includes details such as name, address, telephone numbers and date of birth.
DPIPWE collects personal information from its clients for a variety of purposes connected to the administration of the legislation for which it is responsible. This legislation is outlined within the Administrative Arrangements Order (No 2) 2004.
