Rock Lobster Regions

Introduced from the 2011/12 recreational rock lobster season, Tasmania is divided into the Eastern and Western Rock Lobster Fishing Regions and new catch limits apply for the Eastern Region. See the map below.

Eastern Region: includes all State fishing waters and islands eastward of Point Sorell and Whale Head (southern most point). This includes Flinders, Bruny, Maria, Schouten and any other islands.

Western Region: includes all State fishing waters and islands westward of Point Sorell and Whale Head.

A separate bag and possession limit applies in northern Bass Strait for all waters north of a line of latitude 39°33' (including both the Eastern and Western regions), however the boat limit for each Region still applies (see diagram below). The northern Bass Strait catch limits align with Victorian limits to assist policing.
