Abalone Fishery Catch Updates

Commercial abalone catch data are reported annually in the Fishery Assessment Report produced by the Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute (TAFI). TAFI does not routinely report on catch data within an existing quota year.

Intra-annual management instruments such as block caps will be supported by Marine Resources by making available data so that operators can plan their activities during the quota year. Data such as catch-by-zone are also useful to operators and will also be made available, as follows:

For the 2009 quota year, Marine Resources will make available by month commercial abalone catch data within an existing quota year ON REQUEST in the forms of catch-by-zone and regarding block caps (NB: block cap data will be made available regarding shorter periods once a cap is within 25 per cent of being reached). Please make your request known to:

Matt Bradshaw
Principal Fisheries Management Officer (Dive Fisheries)
Telephone: (03) 6233 3512
Facsimile: (03) 6223 1539
Email: Matt.Bradshaw@dpipwe.tas.gov.au

Block cap data will be available throughout the year.

Catch-by-zone data will not be available after the last Abalone Fishery Advisory Committee (AbFAC) meeting for the year on 20 October 2009.
