The Department manages Crown land across Tasmania on behalf of the Crown and regularly undertakes a range of sustainable land management activities. Most of the work is in rural and urban/rural areas close to, or adjacent to local residents homes, although some work is in remote locations. There is normally some urgency to complete the work quickly.
The types of land management activities include:
- Brushcutting and/or slashing
- Creation of firebreaks
- Tree felling or tree limb removals
- General maintenance (ie installation of signs, replacement of windows, boarding of windows)
- Rubbish removal (ie car bodies, car tyres, garden waste, dry fuels, other general rubbish)
- Erecting and/or installation of access barriers (ie rocks, boom gates, trenches, fences)
- Removal of wasp nests (or other specified insect nests)
- Removal of dead animals
- Removal of illegal structures (ie sheds, jetties, fences)
- Removal and/or spraying of weeds
- Removal of dangerous substances (ie asbestos) and/or clearing of contaminated sites
- Clearing blocked drains and creeks
- Undertake work to reduce (and/or control) erosion.
