Inquiry into the establishment of Marine Protected Areas within the Bruny Bioregion: Final Recommendations Report

Tasmanian bioregionsThe Resource Planning and Development Commission presented the Final Recommendations Report on the Inquiry into the establishment of Marine Protected Areas within the Bruny Bioregion to the Minister for Primary Industries and Water, David Llewellyn, following an inquiry into the establishment of marine protected areas within the Bruny Bioregion. The Bruny Bioregion area extends from south of Maria Island to beyond the southern tip of Bruny Island as shown on the map.

The Final Recommendations Report was released publicly by the Minister on Monday 17 March, noting that the Government will not be agreeing to any recommendations that restrict or prevent traditional fishing activities of recreational or commercial fishers.

The Tasmanian Marine Protected Areas Strategy provides for public consultation on the Final Recommendations Report. The period for public consultation closed on Wednesday 16 April 2008. Following the consultation process, recommendations for marine reserves will be considered by Cabinet.

Owing to the size of the report (355 pages), the web version is also available as a series of smaller files to assist downloading. Printed copies may be available at branches of the State Library.
