About the Rivers and Water Supply Commission

The Rivers and Water Supply Commission (RWSC) is a Government Business Enterprise responsible for the State Government owned water schemes. In support of the Government’s Irrigation Scheme Development Policy, the RWSC established two wholly-owned subsidiaries the Tasmanian Irrigation Schemes Pty Ltd and Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board Pty Ltd.

Tasmanian Irrigation Schemes Pty Ltd is responsible for managing and operating the state-owned water schemes.

Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board Pty Ltd is responsible for the further development of Irrigation Schemes throughout Tasmania.



Functions of the RWSC

The Commission has the following functions:
  • to administer water districts in accordance with section 5(2) of the Rivers and Water Supply Commission Act 1999
  • to manage property of the Crown or the Commission and other property related to the administration of such districts
  • to provide project management and project development services commercial water industry and related industries
  • to undertake the necessary duties of a Government Business Enterprise
  • such other functions related to the commercial water industry as the Minister directs.

The RWSC Annual Reports (1999 to 2008) outline the yearly activities of the Commission and the water and irrigation schemes it operates.
