Recreational Fishing SeasonsRecreational fishing seasons in Tasmania exist for species including rock lobster (also referred to as crayfish), squid and calamari, scallops, striped trumpeter, giant crab and banded morwong. These fisheries may be closed at times corresponding to spawning for some species to protect breeding stock. As spawning times can change from year to year, so can the open and closed seasons.
If not listed, no recreational season applies for that fish species. For changes to published fishing seasons, check public notices in major Tasmanian newspapers, check this page, subscribe for email Fishing News alerts or call the Recreational Sea Fishing Enquiries Line on (03) 6233 7042 or the Department switchboard on 1300 368 550.
