Colour photo of cover of seed brochure. The then Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (DPIWE) through the Tasmanian Certified Seed Potato Scheme in conjunction with Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) and the Fresh Market Seed Potato Growers Association developed a brochure on Certified Seed Potatoes. The brochure includes information on what certified seed is and how to grow potatoes, as well as variety descriptions and what to use them for.

The aim of the brochure is to promote the benefits of using certified seed to all growers of potatoes and to provide easy to understand information for the home gardener wishing to grow their own potatoes. Fresh Market certified seed growers have access to the brochures to pass on to buyers of their seed. The brochure will also be available to buyers of certified seed potatoes at nurseries, garden centres and other outlets.

By making this information available to growers of potatoes, they will be able to make informed decisions about the varieties that they grow, and that they will choose to plant certified seed. Gardeners can grow healthy potatoes that yield well and that they will enjoy eating.

The use of non-certified seed poses many risks to the potato industry in Tasmania, particularly because non-certified seed can carry diseases which can be transferred to healthy plants via insects or in the soil.

The brochure is available online as a PDF file, or from the contact below.
